ROB HAMPTON

Rob with Frank and Dan, who live at Triple-R Ranch in Cheasapeake

"...one of the best training investments I have made."

Rob manages the Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) for Forts Eustis, Monroe, and Story. He helps soldiers who are leaving the Army learn to identify their skills, market themselves, and research companies likely to hire them. He also help them learn to interview and negotiate for salary.

Since 1995, he has been a weekly volunteer at Triple-R Ranch in Chesapeake, teaching riding and driving in addition to repairing fences and gates. After a week of office work, the horses and kids keep him in touch with reality!

Rob writes: "Attending the Sparrow Draft Horse School sponsored by Bundoran Farm and Lazy K Farms in 1998 broadened my vision and improved my skills. This week of instruction has been one of the best training investments I have made. I recommend it to anyone; expert or novice. Prior to attending the school, I had been driving a team for over a year.

"Bundoran Farm has open pastures that are a very forgiving place to learn to drive a 4-horse hitch and to experience driving a 6-up hitch. During the week of instruction, we moved to the roads and hilly trails on the farm which gave all the students the opportunity to practice controlling the hitch and wagon while descending, ascending, and turning. As I saw more experienced drivers backing I was challenged to improve my own skills.

"PS    Fred Scott is the most genteel host with the tastiest lunches I have ever had at a training clinic!!"
